Austria Wien has taken the first step towards qualification for the Europa League by winning the first leg of their playoff against TSV Hartberg. The Viennese side triumphed 2-0 at home on Saturday, putting themselves in a strong position ahead of the second leg next weekend.
Austria Wien took the lead in the 15th minute through a penalty from Dominik Prokop. Hartberg had chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past the resolute Austria Wien defense.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Manfred Fischer scored from close range after a corner. Hartberg pushed for a goal in the closing stages, but Austria Wien held on to claim a vital victory.
The second leg of the playoff will take place at Hartberg's stadium next Saturday. Austria Wien will be confident of securing their place in the Europa League group stage, but Hartberg will be determined to overturn the deficit and claim a European spot for themselves.
