The Denver Broncos: A History of Super Bowl Success and Heartbreak
A storied franchise with a rollercoaster of Super Bowl experiences
From heartbreak to glory, the Broncos have written their name in Super Bowl history
The Denver Broncos have experienced both the exhilaration of Super Bowl victories and the agony of defeat. The franchise has won three Super Bowls in 1997, 1998, and 2015. However, they have also lost a heartbreaking five Super Bowls, leaving them with the second-most Super Bowl losses behind only the New England Patriots.
The Broncos' first Super Bowl appearance came in 1978 where they lost to the Dallas Cowboys 2710. They would go on to lose three more Super Bowls in a row in 1987, 1988, and 1990. The franchise's fortunes changed in 1997 when quarterback John Elway led the Broncos to their first Super Bowl victory over the Green Bay Packers. Elway would lead the Broncos to another Super Bowl victory the following year against the Atlanta Falcons.
After losing Super Bowl XXXIII to the Washington Redskins, the Broncos would have to wait 17 years to return to the Super Bowl. In 2015, led by Peyton Manning, the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. It was a fitting end to Manning's illustrious career and brought the Broncos their third Super Bowl trophy.
The Broncos have not won a playoff game since 2015 and will be looking to return to the Super Bowl in the upcoming season. With a young and talented roster, the Broncos have the potential to add to their Super Bowl legacy.
